KANM’s Statement on Draggieland and the First Amendment

This statement represents the opinion of KANM Student Radio and not that of our license holder, the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.

KANM Student Radio stands firmly in support of Draggieland and the right to free expression. Drag performances are a vibrant and longstanding form of artistic expression, protected under the First Amendment. The decision by Texas A&M University System leadership to prohibit drag shows from campus undermines these fundamental rights and sets a dangerous precedent for the suppression of student-led events and creative expression at our university.

As a student-run organization dedicated to amplifying diverse voices and fostering an inclusive community, we reject the notion that drag is inherently inappropriate or harmful. Instead, we recognize it as an important cultural and artistic tradition that has been embraced by people of all backgrounds, including members of the Texas A&M community.

KANM urges Texas A&M students, alumni, and supporters of free speech to stand with Draggieland and advocate for the protection of student-led programming. We encourage those who share our concerns to take action by supporting Draggieland through their Linktree (click here).

Free expression is a cornerstone of both artistic and journalistic integrity. We will continue to use our platform to support the rights of students to organize, create, and share their voices without undue censorship.
