Getting his start as a singer-songwriting, guitar prodigy of the underground, Austin music scene back in the 1990’s, musician, Ian Moore, has been creating ever-evolving psychedelic rock, folk, and world-influenced music ever since. His most commercially successful single,

Muddy Jesus

, a song I grew up listening to, made it into the

Top 5 AOR rock radio chart, but that doesn't even begin to describe the esteem of his entire discography. From touring with artists of the likes of Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones, to producing iconic albums such as

Modernday Folklore

and

Luminaria

, both of which I highly recommend giving a listen, Ian Moore has remained a staple of the world of blues-rock since beginning his career.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Ian Moore about his recent release of his EP,

Toronto

, touring, musical influences, music’s evolution through the years, and his writing workshops and more.

Moore spoke to me about his current

Toronto

tour, while working on his touring van, describing how he’s “had a lot of people following [him] for 20-25 years… so it is very cool to see how excited some people are to see the band”. He also described the reception of his new EP has been very positive and a “very different vibe from when [they] first started out.” Moore talked about how throughout his music career, “every single molecule on the planet” has inspired him and his art. He went on to describe how he tries to focus in on “actual, little moments that other people didn’t notice” in life when it comes to the creation of his sounds and his lyrics.

When asked about what it was like to have some of his earlier works inspiring younger generations of music-lovers, such as myself, Ian talked about how remembering the way musicians he listened to as a child shaped his music taste and seeing how he has been that for younger generations is truly incredible for him. Moore also discussed his Annual Songwriting Workshop that he hosts in Seattle. He described how he and his fellow musicians “work on creating a space that allows people to see what it feels like to be open.” Moore explained how the experience of allowing people to let down their walls in order to create art is a very fulfilling experience for him.
