KANM Takes SXSW Part 2

March 27, 2019

Whether you were the middle-aged white guy at barricade texting his wife during the set or the indie college radio kid standing next to him it was impossible not to enjoy Cherry Glazerr’s set at SXSW in Austin, TX. Not only does this indie rock band kill the game but they have the powerhouse female vocals that really seal the deal. Clementine Creevy brought a very intense energy to the stage and was very present in terms of interacting with her audience and building off of and showcasing the talents of the other two band members, Tabor Allen and Devin O’Brien. She has also perfected her look, with a shaggy blonde mullet, a full red ensemble, and black boots. Clementine killed the vocals and the band went on a few extended instrumental adventures perfect for headbanging. This is definitely a concert I would have loved to mosh at, but since it was a SXSW showcase instead of just a normal show, the crowd wasn’t as into the rock/hardcore scene as a typical crowd might have been. There were a lot of older adults mostly there because their jobs provided them the opportunity, or like two girls I met from Ohio State University, through student discounts. I also met a woman who had come all the way from Toronto, Canada for business purposes. There were also people there that I’m sure came to see some of the other acts that night such as Car Seat Headrest, King Princess, and Lizzo.  That being said, it was still a great time and I was so glad I had the opportunity to go and see some really talented bands, especially Cherry Glazerr. They came out with a new album just this year called Stuffed and Ready which is phenomenal and it was really cool to get to hear some of the songs from that album played live.     Written by: Lillie Vukin Photo courtesy of Lillie Vukin
