Ethan Durelle by Curtis RiddleWe all know about the self-proclaimed “pen thief since 7th grade” Evan Lecker. But there are many sides to this complicated man. Few may know that he is also the front man to Texas-local indie rock sensation Ethan Durelle. Okay, so most people know him as the oft-sporadic lead singer of Ethan Durelle. I attended their College Station performance on September 15 expecting a great show with no intentions of an interview. But upon casually mentioning Frequency and an interview to Evan, he thought it would be a wonderful idea. So we both agreed to make up some questions to ask each other and we would have an impulsive, on-the-spot interview after the show. The following is what took place:
Curtis: So what ever happened to your trademark red, white, and blue guitar strap that you wore at every single show in the past?
Evan: I lost it!!! I have no idea where it is. My fiancée said she may know where it is, but I can’t find it at all.
Curtis: So if Ethan Durelle could open up for any band in history, no matter how old or new; broken up or intact; it could even be a future band that doesn’t even exist, who would you open up for? It could even be a band of animals, if you like.
Evan: Well I would jump in a time machine and travel back to 1979 and the first band would be us, and the next band would be Joy Division. I think that would be a great show. Then I would jump into the future…well near future to 1979. We would go to 1980, and the Police would headline.
Curtis: You could even do a New Years Eve show starting in 1979, and then by midnight it would be 1980.
Evan: Yeah, it would be a New Years Eve show, and I would try to start a fist fight with Andy Summers and Sting, and then ironically get arrested by the Strontium 90. Now it’s my turn to ask you a question: What is your favorite pie?
Curtis: I would probably say baked apple pies.
Evan: Wrong! I’m sorry; the correct answer is key lime. Key lime pie.
