Interview

Stoney LaRue (The Day)

June 3, 2017

Stoney Larue is a man of the people. He makes music about real life that really resonates with listeners. He is authentic, genuine, and undeniably talented. He is what he is, and he doesn’t try to be anything else. This draws people in and keeps them listening. As popular country moves farther and farther away from its roots, he stays true to his. Though he’s from Oklahoma, his music could fit in anywhere from small town Texas to bars in Europe. His refreshing accessibility is what gives him the ability to do so. Beyond his lyrics, his live shows are also endeavors to connect with his fans. He takes feedback very seriously and builds his setlist and albums around what they want to hear. It’s one of his hallmarks, and something that I really admire. Another signature part of his music  is the connection he creates with his audiences when he performs live. He brings a great energy to the stage that feeds off of the energy of the crowd. I sat down with Stoney in Helotes in the historic John T. Floore’s Country Store. He was a perfect southern gentleman and a pleasure to talk with. He noticed (and loved!) my little elephant tattoo and complimented my bedazzled thrift store denim shirt. He had a lot of great advice and stories. Listen to the interview below!
