Can Netherfriends Be My Best Friend?

June 3, 2017

Netherfriends is one of the most unique artists out there today. He has no manager, no publicist, no band, and no genre. He can play anything from jazz to indie rock to family friendly rap. One of his more notable endeavors is his 50-song album that he made while touring the US. Each state got a song named for the city it was made in. That’s just one of his albums, though. Just this year, he’s released 8 albums. If you can’t find at least one that you love, you aren’t trying. (Source: Facebook) The man behind Netherfriends is a really nice dude from Chicago named Shawn. Now living in Austin, he’s one of those guys who you can just look at and now he’s an artist. Fittingly, making music is his fulltime job. He gets to spend all day making music, so no topic gets unturned. If you give him an idea and an afternoon, he can write an entire album. Currently, he’s releasing 2 of those albums a month on Spotify and going on a tour that doesn’t include shows. Neither one is conventional, but both are undeniably Netherfriends. I got to talk with Shawn when he stopped in Dallas. I met him and his girlfriend at a coffee shop. When I walked up, she was coloring and he was painting portraits of Rick and Morty. They were the absolute nicest, and we had a great time just hanging out. Listen to the interview below and get a sense of what he’s all about!
