Chit Chatting with Beach Weather

April 20, 2017

Springtime in Texas means the weather is anything but beachy. The weather alternates from freezing, to stormy, to sunny and humid all within a day. Despite that, Beach Weather fit right in. Nick, Austin, and Reeve have that effortless “yeah I’m artistic” swagger that permeates Austin, Texas. (Source: Sierra Brown) Beach Weather is a unique band. None of the three members live in the same city, so their music is a mash of different genres and influences. Both of their EPs, What a Drag and Chit Chat, are full of fun, dancey songs with obvious rock undertones. Reeve grounds the music with his strong basslines, Austin keeps the tempos light, and Nick brings shimmering guitar parts and vocals. My favorite track of theirs is “Swoon.” Whenever I listen to it, I feel like Shakira because my hips don’t lie. \ (Source: Sierra Brown) All three of the guys are electric on stage. I’m sure the venue had the speakers up really loud (loud enough to shake me when I was in the photo pit), but I like to think that the it was the band that made the room shimmy. (Source: Sierra Brown) (Source: Sierra Brown) The band brought this neat, Americana-esque vibe to their set. Reeve rocked a denim on denim look and Nick had a scarf tied around his neck that looked like it would fit right in with The Texas Gentlemen. (Source: Sierra Brown) Their set was fantastic. A ton of crowd members sang along to every song, creating a relationship between them and the band. The guys closed with “Sex, Drugs, Etc.” which was perfect for the show. It was very Coachella-like. I was bummed about not being able to drop everything and go to California last weekend, but during Beach Weather’s set, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. (Source: Sierra Brown) This was actually my third time seeing Beach Weather. I saw them with The Maine in September of 2015 on The Maine’s free tour and then again with PVRIS last May. My love for them runs deep. Getting to talk to the guys this time was an absolute dream. Listen to my interview below!
