Carly Rae Who?

March 27, 2019

We all know that song “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen. It seemed as if Carly was a one hit wonder with that song, but she is trying to make a comeback. She cut her hair, dyed it blonde, and has recently released three songs titled, “Now That I Found You”, “No Drug Like Me”, and “Party for One.” After listening to the songs, I believe they are okay. I do not believe Carly has discovered who she is as an artist, but these songs are definitely better than her one hit wonder. They are all upbeat and show off the unique tone Carly has. My favorite out of the three is “Now That I Found You.” I like the vibe to this one although, in my opinion, all three songs sound really similar to one another. I do not know how much luck people with one hit wonders have made it in the music industry, but I am not sure if Carly will ever make it back up there. I do think she is talented but just not my style. I do commend Carly though for not giving up on her passion and continuing to release new content. I truly want to know what other people think about these songs because I have not heard one word about anyone listening to them or maybe nobody knows that they even exist.

If it was not for Spotify putting her songs on the playlist, “New Music Releases” I would have not even known that Carly came out with new music. Her style has remained the same over the years with tons of repetition in her lyrics that makes her music catchy and party music. I think if she rebranded herself, she could become a hit. I would love to hear how she sings melodic songs or songs that are different than that catchy repetitive vibe.
