Juggaknots- Clear Blue Skies [Third Earth, 2003]

The Juggaknots are primarily remembered for their stellar showing on the classic Company Flow joint “The Fire in Which You Burn”, where they gave the world a sample of their excruciatingly detailed battle rhymes. Much like Monty Python’s “Argument Sketch” this track pays with a critical eye, the dynamics involved in an argument. Lead MC Breeze plays the roles of both parties on this track (his vocals recorded at two different octaves), who have it out over the son’s girlfriend because of her race. He’s white, she’s black. The track is supported by a slow, rhythmic concoction of light guitar and knocking drums that ease the listener into a lair painted in bigot vernacular:
So what’s her name/Shenanae or Shakwonda?
They’re just some thug stealin’/slum dwelling/
drug dealing/gun selling/
hundred yard dashing after purse snatching…

This song is more than just an “ABC Afternoon Special”, it’s a masterfully written description of a dialogue between two people from two separate generations trying to make sense of what is and what isn't acceptable in our society.
