Betty Harris - There's a Break in the Road [SSS International, 1969]

Betty Harris was a product of Allen Toussaint and the New Orleans funk and soul movement in the 1960's-70's. Her entire recording career produced enough recordings over the years to fill up a single CD, but her limited work left a lasting impression. This song, the final recording Harris made, is an explosive tune with the most incredible drumming you may ever hear in your entire life courtesy of Zigaboo, throbbing bass, guitar feedback, and blaring horns as an accompaniment with help from the rest of The Meters, and of course rough, strong, passionate vocals from one of the most amazing female soul singers that ever existed.
