| Harry and the Potters: An Introduction to Wizard Rock Curtis Riddle
Okay, so everyone out there knows a thing or two about Harry Potter. They’ve read the books, seen the movies, played the games, or at the very least heard the thrilling details from a child. But have you heard the music? Well, I’d like to introduce you to Harry and the Potters, a three-man rock trio that expands and accompanies the Harry Potter book series. Formed and residing in Boston, Massachusetts, Harry and the Potters have made it their personal goal to inform, support, and encourage reading throughout their community and all over the world.
But this isn’t some “Reading is Jawsome” poster with the picture of a shark jumping out of the water type reading campaign. They have spearheaded a campaign for listeners to enjoy the music inspired by the books by playing mainly in libraries and book shops, often filling the places up with 300-400 fans. They have enjoyed success all over the world with their unique subject matter and unforgettable shows.
The trio ventured down for a Texas tour this past week and I had the opportunity to see them, as they stopped by College Station. They played an outdoor lunchtime show and began to attract attention from passersby right away. They opened with their title track from their second album Voldemort Can’t Stop the Rock boldly declaring that even the most powerful evil wizard can’t get in the way of this “entropy reducing” show. Their stage presence was phenomenal and packed with awkward, spastic dances, and both singers actually assuming the personage of Harry Potter (the drummer assumed the role of Charles Weasley). The audience then strapped themselves in for an incredible show.
